Energy & utilities

Meters, transformers and generators, with billing and maintenance as the action.

The plant

A plant or a utility already has meters. Industrial IoT reads them in engineering units, keeps generator kilowatt-hours apart from the grid, and turns a hot transformer or a long generator run into a maintenance job. No savings figure is published before the first measured month.

Where a first line usually starts

  • Meter rounds are still a walk with a clipboard.
  • A generator run is noticed when the fuel bowser arrives.
  • Outage minutes are reconstructed after the fact.

Revenue meters

kWh, demand and power factor from Modbus meters.

Transformers

Temperature and load, so a hot transformer is a maintenance job.

Generators

Run hours, kWh and fuel, separated from grid supply.

Street and site power

Feeder status for a utility or a large estate.

From the sensor to the action

  1. 01

    Sense

Multifunction meters, transformer temperature, generator run and fuel level.

  2. 02

    Connect

The gateway polls Modbus RTU. A site router covers Modbus TCP meters on Ethernet and the LTE uplink. The vendor is chosen at the survey.

  3. 03

    Platform

Each meter has its own token. The reading is stored against that site only.

  4. 04

    Insight

Demand, consumption and intensity against the tariff the plant enters. The first measured month is the baseline.

  5. 05

    ERP action

Outage and maintenance events are shaped into work orders and energy cost in FactoraERP. That exchange is commissioned with the implementation.
